Chef's Pantry

Wine flows during the Friday Night Flights each month.

LANGLEY GETS EVEN MORE LIVELY ON THE FIRST WEEKEND OF AUGUST

Gallery openings, walk-about wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, live music and more planned over August 1 weekend

“Langley Gets Lively” – a series of fun and festive first weekend happenings – will offer a delightful entrée into August in this charming seaside village on Whidbey Island. The first weekend in August will feature a walk-about wine tasting, free cooking demonstrations, outdoor live music, gallery openings, and more.

Friday

The August opener will be Friday Night Flights, an engaging walk-about town tasting of fine wines from around the world, paired with hors d’ouevres and cheeses. Tickets allow for one tasting and one bite at each of the four locations and are $20 per person. Proof of age is required.

Participating venues are within an easy walking distance and include The Edgecliff Grill, The Fish Bowl, Prima Bistro and Chef’s Pantry. The event starts at any of the four locations Aug. 1 at 4 p.m. and continues to 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 2, promises even more fun. The line up is as follows:

Saturday

Langley Cooks – cooking demonstrations by the pros at the brick courtyard behind the Chef’s Pantry:
1 p.m., Chef Joe Ricks, of The Edgecliff Grill, will prepare Black Bean Polenta;
2 p.m., Cookbook author and chef, Donna Leahy, will demo three summer soups – Chilled Artichoke and Dill, Sweet Corn and Crab and Shrimp Bisque;
3 p.m., Chef Leahy will continue with Chocolate Delights – Part 3.
Samples and demos are free of charge; donations will benefit Northwest Harvest.

Live music from 1 to 4 p.m. at Island Angel Chocolates, outdoors on Frick Lane

First Saturday’s Art Walk starting at 5 p.m. features Langley’s Museo, Karlson/Gray and Whidbey Art galleries. Galleries will remain open until 8 p.m.

Museo’s August show will present the elaborate lampworked glass sculptures of Janis Miltenberger and two-dimensional work that simulates a textile or wallpaper monoprint by Meredith MacLeod – both world-class artists who have relocated to Lopez and Whidbey islands, respectively. The show will run through Aug. 31.
